My family and I will be relocating to the Twin Cities area and have bought a house in Rogers, MN. My husband works from home so I'll be the only one commuting. My office will be in Brooklyn Park right off of County Rd 81. My plan is to avoid I94 and take County Rd 81 for my commute. Has anyone had a similar commute to this? Will it be pretty brutal? Our realtor said it would take me a little over 20 minutes to get to work. Now, if it snows or there is bad weather, I'm not sure what to expect for a commute time. Any insight?

I'd say your realtor was correct in that such a commute should take a bit over 20 minutes in normal weather. County 81 is primarily a two lane road in Rogers (with certain sections that are four lane) until you reach Maple Grove where it is consistently four lanes into Brooklyn Park. The biggest slowdown will be traffic lights. In adverse weather conditions or if there is an accident, however, that time will likely double.

Thanks for the response! If there is a hold up on County 81, are there points where I can jump off and join I94 or take another route?

There unfortunately aren't good alternate routes outside of 94 and 101/81 or options to easily switch from one road to the other.

How far down 81 are you working? That will determine if taking 94/694 will be worth it for you. The longer you are on 94/694 the better the slowdown of the merges will be distributed. My honest response would be to take 81 in the morning, and 94 at night.

I would exit at County Rd 103/W Broadway Ave.

I would take 94 in both directions then.

Right now they are working on the hwy 610 project in Maple Grove that will soon connect 81 to I-94. When that's done I think it will work out pretty slick for you.
