I will be going to U of M this next fall and I was wondering what life is like in Minneapolis for a young college student. Where do most kids go? What is a good place to work that won't interfere with my classes and homework (I will be a full-time student but I will need to work for a little spending $)? What do most people do on the weekends? Are there any good bike trails?

Just any information would be a big help!

Minneapolis has one of the best trail systems in the country.
Minneapolis is easy to find jobs, I'm sure you can find something at retail/restaurants

I recommend restaurants. No tip credit exemption in MN, so it's possible to make real money at some restaurant jobs in town.

And yes, the park board has an extensive system of paved bike paths throughout the city, and public works paints bike lanes on lots of streets.

Wait. So servers get paid at least minimum wage in MN instead of something like $2.50 per hour?

Aye. You still don't want to make minimum wage--one simply can't survive--so it's good to be at a nice place with steady business, but you make at least $4 per hour more here than most states--actually more than that, because forcing restaurants to pay actual minimum wage cuts down on over-staffing. (Oops--did I let out a secret? )

Wow! I'll definitely be checking out server jobs! I plan on living around Grand Avenue which is actually in Saint Paul. Are there a lot of popular restaurants around there? I went to one called Cafe Latte but it was more of a cafeteria than an actual restaurant. It seemed pretty popular.

Cafe Latte and the new Grand Ave Punch Pizza location are pretty much it.
