My family and I just got accepted for the Minnesota Care Health program. My dilema is that they gave me 5 different insurances to choose from. I am overwhelmed. The choices they gave me are Medica, BluePlus, U Care, Health Partners and Metropolitan something...don't recall on the last one. But my question is...id there anyone that knows anything about each of these insurance companies? I have heard that alot of people are happy with Medica...and from what I have read on them...they do seem to offer more. So if anyone can give me some advice that would be great. We just relocated here Florida...and they don't offer stuff like this down there.

Medica and Health Partners are going to give you the widest range of doctors to pick from so that is a plus. Most Health Partner plans do NOT work at the Mayo Clinic, just something to be aware of. Not sure about Medica but something to look into (you can check on the Mayo or Medica site). UCare is an ok network, just not as widely accepted. If I had to chose I would take Health Partners simply because most dr's here take that plan. If the Blue Plus is actually a Blue Cross/Blue Shield plan--I would go with THAT plan.

I wish I still had Medica. They always paid the bills on time and never questioned them. HP on the other hand I have had issues with. Wish I could help more but thats my opinion.

Issues how??? In my experience most "issues" lie with the user, not the insurance company OR with the clinic not sending bills over coded correctly.

No, it wasn't my issue. HP didn't want to pay for some treatments although according to their book it should have been covered. They finally did fess up to errors. And just in case you want to go off on me not paying my bills, I do pay my bills AND pay them on time. Its a pet peev of mine that some don't. Although these days I'm a little more understanding. I was just stating that Medica always did what they stated that they would and paid everything on time. Plus they were very good at answering questions and standing behind their statement.

They will assign you one if you do not choose one within an allotted time. I believe Health Partners, which Is what I had for some time. I guess I was indifferent, although as previously mentioned HP tends to have more options as far as locations so I suppose that was part of my reasoning.

I've been happy with HP, no issues. We've had them several years. I agree about BCBS being the best if that's an option. The seem to take the deepest discounts. BCBS, HP and Medica have the biggest networks so I would do one of those.

Thank you everyone for all the input. I have decided to go with Medica. They seem to have the largest array of options regarding doctors and stuff in their network. I love the fact that the healthcare actually offers to pay you to go to the gym...lol. They offer a credit towards your monthly gym membership as long as you meet their minimum requirements of going 8 times a month. That is awesome. My husband and I are very excited about that. They also have open access and no referral requirements to a specialist if needed. So, at this point, I think I will be happy with my choice. Again, thank you for the helpful info.

I have UCARE and I am very happy with it. I am diabetic though and there is no possible way any of the other companies could be a better deal. For example it costs me $79.00 a month for the insurance (valu-plus category) and the test strips I paid $81.00 a box of 100 for are free ( I get 3 boxes per month). So are the needles for the blood testing. I'm not on insulin so I don't know what they pay on that. They paid 100% for the skin cancer I had removed. I am on Medicare though so maybe it is different for Minnesota Health Care, I don't know. They have a zero deductible for me.
If you go to their web site (something like ucare.com) there is a list of all the seminars or whatever they are called that you can go to and ask any questions you want to. You can also phone them and it usually is short wait.

katholland, I have UCare but we are moving to Florida in December. Do you have any recommendations for Medicap companies in that State?

No, it wasn't my issue. HP didn't want to pay for some treatments although according to their book it should have been covered. They finally did fess up to errors. And just in case you want to go off on me not paying my bills, I do pay my bills AND pay them on time. Its a pet peev of mine that some don't. Although these days I'm a little more understanding. I was just stating that Medica always did what they stated that they would and paid everything on time. Plus they were very good at answering questions and standing behind their statement.
