Minnesota Spring--if I started some flowers from seed this week would they be big and blooming by mid-June? I am not much of a gardener but DS17 graduates from high school and we have a lot of places to put hanging baskets, etc. around our yard that we don't normally use but I would like to for his grad party.

I asked this on another board and they told me just go to the greenhouse now and buy them, I laughed.
Not so at my place in the southwest corner of the state. Cloudy/Foggy and only 40F today Very disappointing to say the least. If I knew spring was going to make an appearance in the Cites today I would have went up there this weekend!
The field across from my house is now a giant lake from all the melting snow and rain. But the golf course is about half melted off here! Going to be a muddy mess for sometime though.
At least I'm a good 15 miles from the Minnesota River.

I'm not much of a gardener either, but Ill try my luck this year.

I was half-asleep at the time but I believe I heard on MPR this morning that it got up to 65° yesterday, which was a record temperature. What an unbelievably beautiful day. We took a nice long walk around the neighborhood and saw tons of people out and about, walking, biking, etc. I have officially been infected by Spring Fever.

Well, now I know it is spring, our ducks are back. We have a nesting pair of mallards that spend spring in our pond and they are here this morning, about 2 weeks early. Usually we don't see them until early April.

A strong cold front moved through. The whole midwest has seen a bid drop in temps. Down in Missouri and Oklahoma they got a bunch of snow with this front. At least we didnt get that, we dont need any more water for the rivers and creeks.
On the bright side 50's tomorrow thru Tuesday

Don't get me wrong, I love this state. But every year, by Feb., I am cursing this place, looking for places to live in warmer climates, and telling myself I will not go through another winter. Then spring comes, and I can't imagine living anywhere else.

Is this the real thing or just a tease?

The last time I remembered it being the real thing this early was 1977.

Too many years a nice March ( above normal temps) is followed by a below normal April that has lots of rain/snow mixed.

Hoping for the real thing.

Some of the meterologist on TV in addition to Paul Douglas on his blog are saying possible 70's next weeK (I hope they are right) If its only getting warmer from here, I am thinking it may be the real thing! Sure, we will probably get a few cold days here and there and possibly some wet snow, but that is spring. They have even been having snow in Texas, Arkansas, and Alabama lately.
I am going to try to go without air conditioning this year, so well see how long the 90's and humidity can hold off.
