Someone posted me that there was a large Mafia population there - maybe so, I didn't see any although would they be identifiable? Could be they're in the casinos which we didn't go to. Who knows for sure? I suppose every place has it's problems.
I must say the seafood was great, the people were nice, the cool gulf breeze was enjoyable and yes we have also seen a lot of advertisments (probably paid for by BP) to "come on down." And so we did and I am glad.
We have considered relocating there and now we know that having spent a week there we would still go.

Keep posting pictures of your fine state (What do you want them to see/know?)...people need to sees its glory in its natural splendor. Maybe you can have a Fact or Fiction thread about Mississippi. Stomp out some misconceptions or blind ignorance of peoples perceptions of MS. I actually loved seeing more racial diversity than I see in SW MO.

I can't speak for all....but mainly Pearl and Tupelo. I'm from SW MO....although it is more diversified than 10 or 20 years ago, it still seems predominantly Caucasion. It may sound cheezy....but I like walking into a restaurant or hotel and see a rainbow of color (black, white etc). I don't want to say too much about race because my post will get deleted again. But of all the places I stopped on my way to and from Florida, Mississippi was my favorite.

I'm shocked. If you mean white, black, and a little brown, sure it might be a little more diverse than what you may be used to. I haven't been to Missouri.

It's a lot more diverse that what I'm used to...but this is the first time I've been through Mississippi so I'm sure there is a lot I don't/didn't see. Why are you shocked? The larger metro Missouri areas are more diverse...but not the smaller communities of less than 100,000. Now I can't speak for all Missouri But I've lived within a 60 mile radius for 23 years and it seems to be that way from what I hear. It's amazing how different states can be...

Springfield, the largest city in Southwest Missouri, and the 3rd largest city in the state is 89% white, 4% black, and 7% other. Tupelo is 69% white, 28% black, and 3% other.

I'm shocked because most of MS seems split pretty evenly with white and black. The most diverse areas being suburban Memphis and college towns I'd guess.
Most people don't associate Mississippi with diversity.
