I consider myself a Mississippian first and Southerner second. I do not really consider myself American. American is an abstract concept to me. So I guess my allegiance would go first to Mississippi, then to the region of my ancestry and heritage which is the south and lastly to America as a whole. In college sports I root Mississippi State then if they are not in contention I root for whatever Mississippi schools is and if ther are not it goes SEC, and if the SEC is not I go with other Southern colleges. In pro Sports I do the same thing. To me the different regions are almost like different countries.

I actually say I am a Southerner by nature. And I am the only one in my family.

We were raised in Alabama by a single mother from Boston. In fact I was born in Boston. There were no other relatives, and when we graduated from high school, each of us four siblings and half siblings went separate directions.
This makes me kind of unique among Southerners, who usually say they have strong family values and ties. I have none.

I traveled the world for 50 years and did what I did. But I am a Southerner by nature, if there is such a thing.

I'm like MissStateDawg except my allegiance lies with my home state of Arkansas. But since I live here now, I'm choosing MS in your poll.

As a resident of my state which is not Missippi, granted I consider myself an american and then a Connecticutian and then my region.

This part of the state is full of fans of both MS teams as well as Volunteer fans and a bunch of Memphis Tiger fans. I'm ready to display my cardinal and white (Hogs) and my kelly green and white (boll weevils) colors during the upcoming season.

Complete opposite.

It would be interesting to see how this breaks down as compared to political leaning but that's for a different forum.

I was born and raised in Mississippi, my large extended family mostly still lives there, and I visit quite often. I've lived elsewhere for 15 years. I've lived in Missouri and currently live in Tennessee, and I've visited all over the US. But I never considered myself to be either a Missourian or a Tennessean. I feel at "home" more in Mississippi than anywhere else in the country, and I hope to retire there someday. I will always be a Mississippian.

But given only the choices in your poll I have to go with "American".
