We are thinking of relocating to Laurel area from Dallas TX - I would appreciate any and all info about the Laurel area - weather, hospitals, economy etc. Especially weather, as we are looking for some place milder than the hot summers in Dallas and, of course, this weekend's "artic blast".

Basically we have 2 requirements on our relocation -- milder weather than Dallas and be approx. 100 miles from Gulfport/Biloxi casinos area!

Thanks for your help.

Personally, I find Laurel to be a depressing town. Last time I was there (about 3 years ago) they were trying to revitalize the downtown area, but I don't know how it ended up. There are lots and lots of government housing projects. On the plus side, there is a very nice art museum there, but as far as I am concerned, that is about it. Oh, and as for the weather, you might escape the 100+ degree summers you have in Dallas, but you will pay with drastically increased humidity that makes summers pretty miserable. Laurel is close enough to the coast to get the juicy air, but not close enough to get offshore breezes.

Default Laurel, MS

We live in Gulfport, but my husband's family is from Laurel. The temperature is a little warmer there in the summers than on the coast. It is about an hour and a half to drive from Laurel to the casinos on the coast. There are also casinos north of Laurel in Philadelphia, MS. I don't think it is quite as hot as Dallas! I was in Dallas last summer and nearly suffocated in the heat! Good luck to you.
