My family and I may be moving to Jones County, MS around the Laurel area and I really need someone from there to tell me how the schools are there. I would also like to know if the medical care there is good. And I need to know about how much real estate goes for there. We would be looking for a double wide w/land or a house w/a couple acres. Nothing fancy at all. We plan to move away from the city of Laurel into the country. My hubby will probably start working for a chicken plant there in Laurel soon. We have 3 kids under the age of 14. Are the people there friendly? We are moving from Leake County, MS...near the Neshoba County line. People here are very friendly and would give you the shirt off their back if they had to. It's a wonderful place to raise children, especially out in the country here. I'm hoping what I just described above is the same in Laurel. I would love any replies and thoughts on Jones County, MS.
I remember living in Laurel, MS when I was 11 years old, long ago...around 1986-87 when a tornado came on a Saturday morning and ripped through where we lived, killing an old man that lived beside us. I believe the owners of the trailor park were by the last name of Summeral? Anyway, it leveled the high school but left Powers Elementary alone.

Just outside of Laurel in Calhoun, Soso, Big Creek area is very nice. West Jones High School, West Jones Middle School, and West Jones Elementary are very good schools.

I agree with Williboy. The Calhoun area is definitely a good place to live. Schools are good there too.

I am a little bias because I live in Calhoun and work at West Jones Elementary. I would be glad to help get your children settled at WJE. There are several wonderful churches in the area. You can email me at smsumrall@c-gate.net for more information.

You, sir, are ridiculous.

You have, so far, three posts and two of them are flaming a place that you've been for '36 hours.'

Please refrain from posting your ridiculous opinions again about a place that you have no idea about.

I'm sure you can readily give solid advice about Raleigh, NC, but, I respectfully disagree with you about Laurel, MS.
