We lived in the Springfield area for over a year, loved touring the Ozarks, soooo beautiful, but didnt see much agriculture. Would like to mave back to MO but want to know where the farms are! Havent seen the NE part of MO, are they there? Was raised in KC area ages ago , some farms there then but not now. Appreciate any input as my son in interested in farming. (Also country music, which was a rarity in SOMO)

Come on down to the bootheel if you want to see alot of agriculture & country music. Kennett has had quite a few musicians (mainly country) come out of there. It's gonna be different kinds of farming than the rest of the state, lots of cotton and rice, but there is some corn and soybeans.

Yes, lots of farming in NE Mo. Around Monroe City there is an area known as the Monroe praire that is quite flat with many acres of tillable land. Also some of very good country musicians live up that way too. I played bass many years in counntry bands in that area, still own farm land there also. Wish I could return to my home state, but for now I am a buckeye, home for my wife!

I grew up in Northeast Missouri - and that is definitley farming territory up there! A lot of good people, too. Hoestly, I thought most of northern Missouri (north of the Missouri River) was farming, and most areas south of the river were forest and dairy (except, the boot heel, as mentioned by a previous poster).

Yep, NE Mo is where you'll find them.

The soil in MO (minus the far northern parts of the state) is fairly rocky for massive-scale farming like you'll find in more northerly Midwest states. Around Clinton, MO, where I lived for ~20 years, the farming was focused mostly on animal feeds (fescue and milo) and soybeans. Any corn farming that was done was done on a relatively small scale.

Unless your serious about the whole farming thing you'd do good to stay away from SE Missouri, because farming is about the only thing that goes on there, and that's no exaggeration.
