Hi all,

Some of you may remember that we were in escrow on a house near Branson until it came back with a 14.4pCi/L radon level (4.0 is EPA rated max). We told y'all that we were walking away, but we really liked the house and convenient location so we stayed in escrow pending another radon test. That's what we've been doing since our last post on the subject.

Yesterday we got the results of the second test. It was even worse at 22 pCi/L. We're now out of the house, without any regrets.

So, here we are back at the start again. We've been running different searches and met the Realtor again. We're rather specific in what we want, so it's turning out to be difficult to find a house.

Some of the things we want include being in the hills. That leaves out the Nixa and Ozark areas, no matter how many nice homes are in those areas and how much we like the little town of Ozark.

We also happen to like being near Branson, not in Branson but near Branson. We've been trying to find something just north of town, near developing shopping areas and easy access to Old Town, Branson Landing, and other things the area has to offer. However, we've been striking out for various reasons.

Opening up our search a little, it seems that we've found an interesting possibility near Lampe, MO. Lampe is an area south of Kimberling City with homes on or near Table Rock Lake.

For those of you who know Lampe, what do you think of it? In your opinion, is it too far out in the sticks? Even if it's not as convenient to Branson as our other location, does the Lampe region have something else to offer to compensate for the added drive (~20 minutes of so) into Branson?

Also, rather than going to Home Depot north of Branson, or the soon-to-be-built Super WalMart in the same area, is there a different and closer area that you would go to get the same stores? For example, would a Lampe homeowner head to Arkansas for such shopping trips instead of Branson?

I guess that's enough questions for now. I'm just trying to get a handle on the area and see if I can make it work. Again, it looks like I may have found a decent home, but I don't want to feel like a hermit because the house is too far away from everything we want.

Thanks for your help!

Garth: I only know about Lampe by third party. My Dad's personal assistant lives there. Her husband loves it. They are on the water and he is an avid fisherman. She, however, isn't so fond of it even after 10 years. For her it's too country...no real restaurants and a drive to shopping. She said that she still goes to Springfield for major shopping and ocassionally to Rogers or Fayetteville Ark.

Other than that, I only know Lampe by driving thru on my way to my fathers out between Carr Lane and Golden. Have you looked around Reed Springs? There seems to be quite a lot of building in that direction and parts of Reed Springs are so close to Branson you wouldn't know the difference.

I'm catching a flight out tomorrow to begin the house search for us. The husband is packing the POD(s) while I'm gone so hopefully I can return with good news.

Thanks guys. We're still looking around. After checking out the drive back and forth between the areas we'd like to frequent, we found the drive a bit long for us. Oh well, the search continues . . .
