Just don't turn into Lambert's parking lot, continue east on County 20 for about 3/4 of a mile, and turn left instead into Wolf Bay Lodge. Start with the Cha-Cha Tuna dip, then have either one of the daily specials or my favorite, the bacon-wrapped filet. Then go home and take a nap....

I like Lambert's - mostly for the veggies that come with the meal. We rarely eat there because it's so darn hard to get in. We arrived once at 3:30 (deliberately) and still had to wait.

The original part of Fairhope is made up of a lot of modest cottages built in the '40s and '50s. Many have been remodeled. I think the zoning laws discourage tear-downs, or you would see a lot more of them. Since the town became "chic" back in the '80s, a lot of contemporary sub-divisions have popped up (like mushrooms) north and east of town. These are mostly distinguished by price range and proximity to golf courses (one north of Fairhope in Spanish Fort, one south in Point Clear). The golfing communities include homes at the $1M range or higher. If you're willing to go out 5-10 miles you have lots of choices in existing homes and lots. Gulf Shores is about 45 min. south, and is a little secluded unless you have a job there (mostly tourist related) or don't need a job. Towns in between like Foley, Magnolia Springs, Robertsdale (where Tim Cook, pres. of Apple is from), and Loxley are former farm communities in the process of being gentrified. Still a little secluded (45 min from Pensacola (east) or Mobile (west)). Daphne and Spanish Fort are bedroom communities for Mobile (the "bridge and tunnel set" since you have to go over a long bridge and through a tunnel to get to Mobile). Traffic can be an issue. I grew up in Spanish Fort in the '50s and early '60s when you knew almost everyone on the "eastern shore" and Hwy 98 was two lanes. It's still a nice place to live, with way more shopping and restaurants built up...Baldwin County (BC) has been one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in Alabama for the last 20 years. I live in south Mississippi now, but still identify strongly with LA (lower Alabama). Welcome!
