The roads are a huge problem, especially the fact that Mobile has prospered far away from the interstates. That is why Airport Blvd, Cottage Hill, Hillcrest and Grelot are nightmares at rush hour!

Once they figure out a way to build a western loop or bypass from 10 to 65, that could help alleviate the through traffic that clogs the roads, but it could be bad news for the Bel Air/Springdale area if the shopping moves westward too.

I actually found the lack of crowds at Romano's refreshing. As I said before, despite the few customers, the food and service was always very good. It was the one place I could count on to get a seat quickly if I was running late for dinner on a Saturday night. That's certainly not the case with many other restaurants in Mobile, particularly either location of Briquettes!

The lack of advertising probably didn't help their business, I can't even remember the last time I saw a MG commercial. I think most people just sort of forgot the place was there.

This is true. However, if you were on their email list, they advertised quite frequently. Almost every week I could count on receiving a buy one entrée/get one free or a $10 off $30 purchase. In hindsight, this was probably because they were struggling and were trying to drum up business.

It would be great for Koreans to take over the old Macaroni Grill location, making it a Korean restaurant.

I'd be down for one of those Korean BBQ joints where you grill your own meats at the table and such. Seems like an expensive remodel though.

The Hispanic people took over the old Denny's location and made it into a Mexican restaurant. They didn't bother remodeling the Denny's shape sign.

Yes, it's La Cocina and its really good. There other location is nearly impossible to get into because its small and always packed.

La Cocina is in the old El Chico -- not the old Denny's.
I believe the Denny's building was supposed to reopen as another breakfast place.

Ah you're right. I remember trying to go there a year or two ago, but it had already closed down.
