My husband and I use to live in Montana many years ago. We have lived in Colorado for the past 15 years. I have recently been offered a job in Helena and we are looking forward to calling Montana home again. My husband is an avid cyclists. He has a few health conditions that are helped by him being able to cycle for miles and hours. Unfortunately, Colorado's population has increased by 100,000 just in the past year and the streets are not safe for him to ride. We are very sad about this! Are there places to safely ride outside of Helena? Do drivers give cyclists room? (Recently out on "rural" roads my husband has been spit on, yelled at and even ran off the road.) Thank you so much for any information.

I read in the Helena paper yesterday that they are building some type of bicycle corridor through Helena; I don't recall the details but you could find the story in the Independent Record Newspaper. They are on the web.

I dont really see many people riding bikes around here but there are quit a few country roads he could enjoy.

I just moved from Helena. There is a cycling club as well as other outdoor clubs. There are lots of opportunities for riding in and around Helena individually or with others who ride. It is beautiful country and I enjoyed riding (I rode alone mostly). I preferred road rides in the outlying areas, but there are lots of Mt bike trails and riding opportunities as well. Yes, they are still planning on building some sort of city trail system. I believe the cycling club is working on that. I also think they have a website. Know you will enjoy Helena, it grows on you.

Default Thanks!

Thank you for all the great information. Helena sounds like a wonderful place and hopefully it will stay that way! Happy trails!
