My husband and i have been living in WY for the past year and are now wanting to see what living in MT is like. We are looking for a place with beautiful mountains you can view right from your living room - and a place where you have some trees around as well. (I know there are a lot of valleys where you'll barely find any trees.)

We dont mind living in a secluded place.. as long as you can reach a grocery store within an hr or so..

We have been looking at Emmigrant and Ennis - can anyone tell me what they know about those areas?

It seems houses are quite cheap around Ennis.. why is that?

Also, know of any rural subdivisions in SW Montana?

Thanks!

Emmigrant I can't speak to.
Ennis is a town of mostly transplants and many summer only residents. The valley ranches now belong to wealthy absentee owners. It is not desirable in winter because of the incessant wind. It is a wonderful summer place. The houses in town and surrounding subdivisions swing in price depending on local employment opportunities. It is in down cycle now because the construction trade in Big Sky resort is way down. Ennis is a place where people pack up and move away after a normal winter occurs. Lately winters have been milder than average.
