Considering how the concept of "sex offender" has expanded from "the very very few actually-dangerous offenders" (and a crime where recidivism is very low, so why bother?) to include "17 year old kids who sent each other nude selfies" and "drunks who got caught peeing in an alley" -- pay attention to the neighborhood, not some nebulous list of mostly-harmless persons. Teach your kid to pay attention too, not to be afraid of everyone they see for no good reason.

Further and far more pertinent, the vast majority of actual sex offenses against children were done by someone in their own family, NOT by strangers. If your own family is free of predators, your kid will be safe.

And consider that in MT, we defend our own. You don't want to be the loser caught in the act. You really don't.

Smart paragraph. The sex offender registry in its current form needs to die. Maybe a registry for particularly violent offenses only, including non-sexual.
