I posted earlier in the thread that there were no beautiful towns in Montana. What a dork I am ! All the towns in Montana are beautiful in their own way and after all, the word is subjective anyway. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. If you're a rock hound and an old mine buff then Butte may be on your list. If you are a nature lover and love tiny river towns Polebridge would fit the bill. My problem is that I just haven't visited enough towns to really name many. I like my former town of Hot springs but it is butt ugly in appearance ! What is beautiful about that town is there are some really great folks there and its location with thermal springs nearby and in town are interesting, I think there over 33 geothermal sites between Camas Prairie and Niarada !

Elkhunter, you gave me my laugh of the day! Especially adding Jim Town! You are naughty!

For real:
I like Trout Creek, Thompson Falls, Polson.

Central Great Falls.
The historic parts of Bozeman.
Fort Benton.
The historic parts of Livingston.
Plentywood in the summer, like an oasis in the grass.

And perhaps because it's such a contrast, I then thought of Browning during Indian festival days, all bright with dust from flying feet. And then I think of the lyrics to my favourite Dave Stamey song, "Tonopah":

Hot dry and windblown country callin' me
Out where those shadows run so tall
Hot dry and windblown country I can hear you callin' me
Callin' me back to Tonopah

Even places that aren't classically "beautiful" can have their own appeal.... as every plains or desert dweller knows.

I've never been to Butte for St.Paddy's day, tho what with it being an Irish town, doncha know, I'd expect it's a rollicking good time Don't think anyone I knew there is still alive, tho

And Butte may not be pretty, but it's got a million-dollar view from above the Pit!

And on a satellite view, the Pit looks like a gigantic sapphire.

I know ..... the pit looks huge from satellite! I mean when you look at it from the ground it doesn't seem that big. But from above!! Recently, I noticed a great picture of Butte but couldn't get it. It currently is on the Montana Tech Website (mtech.edu). great picture of uptown Butte with the pit in the background. I suggest everyone check it out cause the brick building look awesome, that is the Butte I think is pretty.
