I will be finally visiting Montreal with my girlfriend next weekend. We know of the landmarks and cool, entertaining stuff to see/do (go on Mount Royal, check out the underground mall, stroll on st. Catherine, etc..), are there any special, one of a kind events going on this month?

Merci!

Hmmm. Are you from NYC or a smaller area in New York? There are Chinese bakeries in Montreal and that's very unusual for people from smaller areas, but I'm sure there's plenty in New York City. As for traditional bakeries, they're all pretty good but if you want some tasty and unique deserts I'd rather suggest Juliet et Chocolat, which has two locations in the Plateau. It's a great place for some lovely deserts.

This city is awash in really good French pastry shops. Even the chains like Premier Moisson and Au Pain Dore are excellent. I have four within walking distance. Good thing I don't have a sweet tooth, or I'd blow up real good. Which neighbourhood will you be staying in? From flakey, buttery croissants to handmade concoctions at the chocolateries, you won't be disappointed.
