NDG, Verdun, Angrignon will all work for you. Look for either an appartment in a Duplex or a townhouse with backyard.

I agree with DawnMTL.
Not ALL of Westmount is super expensive.
I'd stick with Westmount, with the possibility of Little Burgundy to the South if you must.
But Westmount DOES have some areas like this:

That should be somewhat affordable.

That's like asking if the kitchen has a granite counter. Some will, some won't.

Most of people prefer Westmount or nearby Westmount area. What about Lachine, Verdun, etc. for a famiy with kids?

Default Where to live in Montreal

First of all, I had followed all of your advice. My husband and I had spent several days to drive around and checked the neighborhoods, made some visits to open houses. We are staying at the serviced apartment ( no service, do your own chores ) in Mont Royal. We had considered townhouse, duplex, apts, everything.
We also needed to consider the daily commute from the Westmont office and our future home.
Finally, we have found a detached house in Place Des Tourterelles, Laval. It has everything we need. There are two big trees for my cats, Fluffy and Jackson as well. That little house is well worth the drive for my husband's daily driving to and fro his office.
I would like to say thank you for all of your kind advice which helped us way easier to look for the desired places. I had asked you guy's help when I first moved to Florida nearly three years ago. Then, I had asked again and you all helped. This online community is well supported by the people like you.
Thank you.

Good news on you finding a suitable place..Did you actually try driving the rush hour commute from Laval to Westmount then back again at the end of the day?Or will the Metro be your means of commuting?

No, I won't but my husband will
Actually, he travels out of Montreal a few times a month and hopefully he can manage the commute. The landlord did that for 13 years and he said it would take at least 45 mins from Laval to Westmount if you leave at around 7:15 AM. My husband is a early riser and that fits his routine.
It is very hard to find a house with a backyard and a moderate rent. All the electrical appliances included. That saves us a lot.

Thanks for the update!

Laval! That surprised me, because I was sure you'd be looking for housing on the island of Montreal.

Are you near one of the train station stops? I used to commute by train from Roxboro to Montreal every weekday for years - it's the same line that services Laval. It's very convenient.

AMT (Montreal Transportation)

(I used Ste-Dorothee as an example because I don't know which area you live in)

Train to/from Laval and Montreal

I hope that you, hubby, Fluffy and Jackson will be very happy in Laval/Montreal!
