For any one driving hwy20 lately you'll notice they have painted all the sound walls a blueish purple color and installed blue light poles,IMO it looks hideous and highlights the walls imperfections,What a waste of money and time. http://montrealgazette.com/news/loca...private-sector
I love it. Especially the blue light posts with a very futuristic look and feel.
I do commend the people behind this project - at least they are trying to (in a limited way) improve the general aesthetics of public spaces using whatever resources they have at their disposal.
(I'm trying to imagine something like this being done in Toronto on the Gardiner Express or 401, but then you'd instantly hear the roars from Ford Nation and Toronto Sun about "gravy trains" and "taxpayer waste" and "downtown elite" even if it doesn't involve public money...For example, we've already spent nearly $1 billion in the last 5 years upgrading the Gardiner Expressway, and it still looks as hideous as ever with not a trace of aesthetics).
Are you basing that on what you see in the video or actual first hand experience?
private sector's dollars that paid for it.? that maybe the case but you werent inconvenienced with the constant road/lane closures and the ensuing traffic congestion that was necessary to complete this hideous eyesore.
I saw the walls painted blue in between the bulges when I drove, wondered for a few fleeting moments what that was about, and kept on driving. Admittedly, I don't drive a lot, so I base the whole picture on this video.

It’s a $3.2 million birthday gift to Montreal from the National Bank and a slew of private donors.
“It’s a little bit of a crazy idea, but that’s what makes Montreal fun,” said Louis Vachon, president and CEO of the National Bank.
The lights look nice. But the blue walls are pretty ugly IMO.
That said, I'm surprised this concept even passed, as lots of places forbid cars from having any type of blue neons on them. Something to do with police. Now we're going to have fluorescent blue beams all over the road.
