That will make the Morgantown Airport capable of handling much larger aircraft, and will enable visiting athletic teams, for example, to land and take off from here. It will also allow for larger corporate jets to utilize the facility. West Virginia's busiest airport is about to get even busier.

It's been pretty cool watching the blackhawks fly in and out of the airport the last couple weeks. I look forward to seeing the military cargo planes fly in and out once the runway is done.

Glenn Kelly was talking about recently that we get calls daily wanting to use our facility and park their planes but we have to turn them away currently due to our lacking facilities which will start to be fixed when construction starts in April 2017. City council tonight approved putting 10% or roughly $130,000 into a contingency fund for the airport project. This was apparently required on our side to get the project rolling, so one more hurdle down.

Default Upper Falling Run TIF Created to Serve 55+ Housing Needs

There was some opposition by a minority of council members and County Commissioners who wanted a larger TIF area designated, including an area outside city limits, but the Morgantown City Council approved a TIF district to provide a roadway and services to a new 55+ housing development to be built in the Upper Falling Run area near the WVU Research Farm off of WV 705.

There is definitely a need for housing for the 55+ age group. The only question is whether or not this is the best location for it, in my mind.

Bad location for a 55+ community not to mention the insanity of another TIF district for the benefit of one developer. Oh great, a road through WVU farm land. All around terrible

I see your point. My preference would be something around Star City, but Council wants it in city limits.

The problem with this as I've said a million times is that Morgantown needs to annex more areas around the city.

And I agree with Greystreet. Hate this

Definitely agree Morgantown needs to annex land, I really don't understand why they don't, they have three legal avenues they could use to annex.

Regarding the 55+ care, WVU gave this land to the city for this specific reason and got some other land in return. The organic farm won't be harmed and in fact the new road will be used by the organic farm. One big benefit of this project is that it will provide memory care units, which is something we do not have in our area. Currently if a loved one needs memory care, they have to be moved to Pittsburgh.

Morgantown won't annex because they know county commission would not support it. Also, usual suspects Giulani and Biafore would hold it up in the courts
