Anybody a fan of Scandinavian movies, like Danish, Swedish, etc? I watched quite a few of them in the last one year and I think they make some pretty good movies!!

Here are a few of my favorites, I will add more as I remember them, I strongly suggest you check them out if you are into good foreign movies. If you have seen or know of any good Scandinavian movies, please post here. Thanks.

By the way, Adam's Apples is my favorite one in the above list, I really wish some of you check it out then we can talk about it !!

I went through a Mads Mikkelsen phase a while back, and saw most of these. Valhalla Rising was strange.

I'd also recommend the Swedish Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy,
Hawaii, Oslo, (IMDb - Hawaii, Oslo (2004))
Terribly Happy, (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1087890/ )
Flame and Citron, (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0920458/)
Reprise (Reprise (2006) - IMDb)
The Bothersome Man ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0808185/ )

Thanks, saw the whole Dragon Tattoo series and loved it (I thought the recently release US-version of part 1 was good too). Have not seen Reprise, will check it out.

Mads Mikkelsen is really awesome, I like the versatility of his acting. Check out Adam's Apples if you have not already !!

Oh and thanks for reminding me of "Hawaii, Oslo" ...I remembered the plot but could not remember the name of the movie. I have seen it and I LOVED IT !!

I watched one a few months ago about a bunch of Nazi zombies. Very much a horror/comedy. Started out great, but I thought the ending was weak.

World's Apart was a good 2008 Danish picture that attracted very little attention.

Also, the original Insomnia was excellent.

The Norwegian epic Edvard Munch from the 70's is on my short list of the best pictures I've ever seen. And Bergman's Fanny and Alexander.

The Icelandic fllm industry is turning out quite a few pictures, which are surprisingly good. Jar City was one.

Mustn't forget the Dogme genre from Denmark. Festen and a few others.

I Am Curious (Yellow), in 1967, was outrageous for explicitly sexual and controversial politico-religious themes, mildly popular and widely talked about in the real world, but seized by US customs agents protecting the tender ears and eyes of the innocent Americans who were busy burning Detroit and napalming Vietnamese children. I saw it in Copenhagen in '68, and it was disappointing and not all that shocking.

I'm a big fan. And I would recommend: My Life as a Dog, Show Me Love, and All Things Fair. Great Swedish films all.

Lilya 4ever-though very heartbreaking, is an excellent film. Russian language but directed by Lukas Moodyson. I'm not familiar with his other work.

The Seventh Seal will probably always be my fav Scandinavian film . Elling was also a good one.
