I'll add The Watchmen. It is VERY GORY. It is long but good but VERY GORY for a "comic book movie."

When I went to see Deerhunter at the theater when it first came out, that hit me pretty hard
(the second half -the first half reminded me of my old neighborhood but no mountains).

I see both have already been stated, but I agree:

Schindler's List
American History X

I own both but will probably give them away. No point in having movies I never watch. Another is Apocalypto. It has the distinction of being one movie that I almost had an anxiety attack while watching although I found it very gripping, just far too intense.

Also horror movies which I loved as a teen. Can't stomach them anymore, they are too disturbing even if not especially gory. I can not believe I used to own "The Exorcist" and thought it was a classic masterpiece.. I will never watch it again.

I'm not really bothered by much. War movies are fine...Holocaust movies are fine...I've seen Passion of the Christ several times...

But I don't think I could watch "Boys Don't Cry" again. Hilary Swank was great, but I just can't deal with the things that happened in this film.

United 93 - The last five minutes is absolutely gut wrenching

Requiem for a Dream - beautiful and so incredibly disturbing

Another one is Million Dollar Baby. Great movie, the ending was tough.

I tried watching Apocalypse Now the other day and couldn't, so there's one. Along with other Vietnam War movies: The Deer Hunter, Platoon and Full Metal Jacket.

All excellent films, but I don't need to see them again.

Passion of the Christ is real intense. I have tried a number of times to watch it again and I am never in the right mood to do so. It's not a film that you can just flip on.
