Interesting news and interesting comments on the Gateworld site. Most seem disappointed that the TV series' story lines won't be used. I'd personally love to see the series continuations, but I'm going to keep an open mind. "Reimagined" sci-fi has been better than I'd expected with some properties, most notably Battlestar Galactica.
I hadn't realized that the people who brought us the Movie were not involved in any of the TV series.
I hope the new movie trilogy can be an extension of the first movie and still be parallel to the series rather than a reboot or unrelated.
The article I read said they were going to ignore the series. It makes sense to me that the series would be ignored. They want this to be its own product. I would also rather see an extension of the first movie rather than a reboot/make.

From the article: "... Based on past comments from the two it seems likely that the new films will signal a “reboot” or continuation of the original, rather than a remake. It will probably pick up a suitable number of years after Stargate, and may or may not include any characters or actors from the 1994 film. (The two will also likely avoid the entirety of the television series’ continuity.)"
If they include characters from 1994, then the new movies would either ignore or re-write (reboot) the series. But the above also says the new flicks might not use previous characters. That would allow for yet another parallel branch in the Stargate story, if it was written to not contradict the series.
Frankly, I'm getting tired of the effort to keep track of all the reboots in films. How many Batmans? Spidermans? And the new Star Trek deviates enough so it's not hard to keep track, but they should have just used the universe and had new characters, a new story, rather than stepping on old ones.
I would prefer a complete reboot from the discovering of the SG to wherever they want to take the story.
1994 was a long time ago, would love to see the story retold with today's technology as long as they stay somewhat on point for the first 1/3 of the trilogy.
I loved the movie and started watching the TV series, but I drifted away from it after missing when it was on a few times. the great thing about not using the TV series' direction is that we will only have to watch the original movie, and be caught up with where it left off. A lot of TV SG(x) fans won't care that it doesn't follow the TV versions and they, along with the people that didn't follow the TV series, will embrace the trilogy.
