I haven't gone to the theater to see a single movie. What a disappointment as I love going to a fun, exciting movie during the dog days of summer. Makes ya wonder who is green lighting movie decisions these days. Whoever they are, they are clueless....

Summer movies have never been known for the Intelligence Factor. It is the season of the popcorn flick.

I like summer movies, although it seems like less came out this summer than last.

What do you consider fun and exciting?

I admit, I probably go to the movies TOO frequently. Since May 1, I've seen:

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Begin Again
Le Chef
How to Train Your Dragon 2
The Fault in Our Stars
Edge of Tomorrow
Maleficent
X-Men: Days of Future Past
Godzilla
Million Dollar Arm

Godzilla was the only dud in the bunch for me. My favorites have been Begin Again, Le Chef, and Edge of Tomorrow.

But even still, not a whole lot of good movies have come out. Usually we tend to go to the movies once a week during the summer, and even then there were still movies we wanted to see but didn't get around to. This year, we've been to the movies maybe once a month.

Out of all of the movies that are currently at the two closest movies, all but one has a rotten rating on Rotten Tomatoes. There are just no decent movies to see. I don't care that the movie aren't ground breaking cinema, but my choices end up being either Tammy, Think Like a Man Too, Transformers, or Sex Tape. At least there is always Netflix.

We did see Begin Again tonight, and that was an excellent movie. It was probably the best movie we've seen all year. But then we tried to think of what other good movies we've seen this summer, and just couldn't think of any that stood out. Chef was good, Edge of Tomorrow was okay... and...

It seems like a lot came out in Early/Mid May and a lot are coming out in Mid/Late August, but not a whole lot in between.

That too bad, and odd, because I had the impression that Austin, if that's where you are, is kind of a hotbed of good movie-going. I just looked on Moviefone, and it looks like you have a few worthwhile things playing there now that I'd go to see.

Add Hercules to the dud list--
wouldn't go see Godzilla on a bet

enjoyed Begin Again--like Mark Ruffalo but Katherine Keener's hair is just awful every time I see her--contain the hair and get a better performance...

saw Sex Tape--Rob Lowe was really funny--and at least there was a script--not just people ad-libbing 47 times for the outtake reel...

Only movies I saw for summer were X-Men/Days of Future Past and Dawn of Planet of the Apes.
Both okay, but as good as predecessors. Best to check for friend recommendations b4 going to movie theater. Forget the critics.
