#1, and probably my favorite movie of all time overall would be Road To Perdition. Tied with Jeremiah Johnson. I'd forgotten Falling Down- I'll second that. True Grit, either version. And it never got much attention, but I really liked In The Bedroom-with Sissy Spacek, Tom Wilkinson, Marisa Tomei.
For sheer creepiness- Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? And Tod Browning's Freaks.
And while the Dirty Harry movies really aren't my cup of tea, I've always thought Clint Eastwood gave great revenge: Unforgiven, Outlaw Josey Wales, Gran Torino, High Plains Drifter.
An Eye for an Eye (Sally Field stalks and kills Keifer Sutherland, who brutally raped and murdered her daughter and got off on a legal technicality)
The Shawshank Redemption (Tim Robbins gets revenge on a flawed criminal justice system that wrongly convicted him, and on a corrupt prison warden who exploited him and committed crimes)
The Hand the Rocks the Cradle (Rebecca DeMornay takes revenge on a family that she believes ruined her family and life)
The Ring (creepy ghost girl takes revenge on those who caused her death and anyone else who happens to get involved)
In the Bedroom (Man kills a guy who killed his son but didn't get charged for it)
This one isn't really a revenge movie, but it had a great revenge scene: Sleeping With the Enemy (Julia Roberts leaves her psycho abusive husband who eventually find her and tries to kill her. At the end, she gets him at gunpoint, calls 911, reports she "just shot an intruder," hangs up, and kills him).
4 boys end up in juvenile prison after a prank gone bad, and get brutalized and raped by guards (including Kevin Bacon). Years later, they get their revenge, led by Brad Pitt. Great movie...now I want to re-watch it. Robert De Niro is in it too.
