Lately I've been in the mood to watch a 50s-themed movie. Can you recommend a movie that takes place in the 50s, but that was made after the 50s? I've already seen Far From Heaven, The Hours, Back to the Future, Grease.

I've never seen Pleasantville, but I think it's a comedy, and I'd prefer to see dramas only. Preferably dramas about suburban life (though it's not a requirement).

L.A. Confidential
Raging Bull

Though Pleasantville is a comedy, it's well worth watching. The scene where the main character is driving through cherry blossoms is gorgeous.

"Stand By Me" takes place in the late 50's, but was made in the 80's
"MASH" takes place in the 50's, but was made in the 70's

I think it's classified as a comedy/drama, but personally I think it's more drama than comedy.

How could you folks forget "American Graffitti"?

How about the "Porkies" movie if you want a raunchy comedy.

There are lots war movies.

Thanks all for the recommendations. However, I was looking for films made after the 50s (set in the 50s) rather than films made in the 50s. A couple of you mentioned Pleasantville, so I'll check that one out first.

What better way is there to get a true feel for the 1950's than to see a film made during that decade
(just saying )?
