Another one from Private Ryan is when Wade the medic dies as he’s crying for his mother (just days after telling the story of his mother coming home late at night and him as a little kid pretending to be asleep) — Wade had taken machine gun rounds and was begging for more and more morphine, and the guys give it to him.

OMG, not one death but many - when the pastor and the officer come to the door to tell the mom and dad that their sons have been killed - the acting. That movie was so, so powerful.

Oh yes, OMG! When she’s doing the dishes and looks up through the kitchen window, and does a double take at the approaching car. And then when the chaplain and Army officer get out of the parked car and she collapses before getting to the front door.

So powerful.

As I write this, there must be some salty air nearby…

KA, that scene still haunts me.

For me, it was Percy's death in The Spitfire Grill. Heartwrenching and so, so wrong.

Of late, I would say Jojo's mother's death in Jojo Rabbit. That movie also has one of the most beautiful closing scenes of any I've seen.

Héctor's final departure in the animated film "Coco" is indeed a deeply touching and emotionally resonant moment in the story. Here's a closer look at this poignant scene:

Context:
In "Coco," Héctor is a charming and spirited character from the Land of the Dead who assists the young protagonist, Miguel, in his quest to reconnect with his family and discover the truth about his heritage. Héctor is a musician who desperately seeks to have his photo displayed on an ofrenda (an altar) during the Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos. This is crucial for his continued existence in the Land of the Dead, as it ensures that he is remembered by the living.

The Departure Scene:
As the film progresses, it's revealed that Héctor is not remembered by his living family, which puts his existence in jeopardy. In a heart-wrenching moment, he chooses to leave the Land of the Dead and cross over to the Land of the Forgotten, a place where the memories of those who are never spoken of again reside. This selfless act is meant to protect Miguel, his great-great-grandson, and ensure that Miguel can return to the land of the living.

Themes:
Héctor's departure touches on several profound themes:

Memory: The film highlights the importance of remembering and honoring our ancestors, as they live on in our memories.
Family: It underscores the significance of family bonds and the sacrifices made for the sake of loved ones.
Legacy: Héctor's actions ultimately contribute to the restoration of his family's traditions and legacy, bridging the gap between generations.
Emotional Impact:
Héctor's farewell scene is emotionally powerful because it captures the essence of Dia de los Muertos and the idea that death is not the end as long as we continue to remember and celebrate our loved ones. It showcases the complexity of love, memory, and sacrifice in a way that resonates with both children and adults.

Overall, Héctor's departure in "Coco" is a moving and memorable moment in a film that beautifully explores Mexican culture, family, and the enduring power of memory. It leaves a lasting impression on viewers, reminding them of the importance of cherishing their own family connections and traditions.
