I ran across Capricorn One on TV. If you haven't seen it, it's a fun thriller about astronauts on the run because of an attempt to cover-up a faked space mission. Particularly notable for the exceptional acting skills of that famous, under-rated artist, Orenthal James Simpson. And by today's standards, admirably few gimmicks, few special effects.

So,so.

The world's more paranoid like Outbreak (1995).

The world ought to be more paranoid like NETWORK. That movie is spooky in its prediction of our world.

Refer to the flick often. "That was fun, Daddy! Can we get some more tokens and ride it again?".....after they put the Lear down in the desert. Might have been in the book, might have read the book, talk about what to do with them after
Spoiler
the CM failed on re-entry
, about plastic surgery and fake IDs.....but a few bullets or a pound or two of plastic explosives would be a lot easier. Yes, read the book because the hero goes to his friend's apartment, finds some babe living there, bursts in, and sees her mail with a magazine 5 months old.

As far as OJ goes, I think he was more "memorable" in The Towering Inferno or Killer Force.....only saw a moment of that Bus out in the desert.

Back to the flick. Pretty good between
Spoiler
the Biplane and the Hughes 500s, especially since they did take the plane to where it had the advantage of the helicopters. The brakes out was pretty neat, too!

Movie wise, here and there because with the cast such as it was, it did feel like "everyone gets to play". With so much $$$ riding on why they did it, wasn't it convenient that they ran out of killers just in time for
Spoiler
James Brolin to come running home
. And, of course, the movie ties in with A Sound of Thunder.

But as far as our paranoid times? Nah.......

If you say so. Leslie Nielsen slapstick movies never appealed to me. I will grant you that he was mediocre as a serious actor but as slapstick, he is, well was, absolutely disgusting. I never bothered with any of his flicks of that kind.

Well, nail me to a cross!

I've never seen Independence Day, either, because Will Smith doesn't appeal to me. I won't watch Mission Impossible flicks because I don't like Tom Cruise and for the longest while, I thought Bruce Willis was a loud mouth jerk; never seen Die Hard.

I suppose it might be like all those who won't watch Jane Fonda........which, paranoia wise, would sink The China Syndrome (never saw that, either).

SO-o, getting back to our thread, if a particular flick has a leading star who carries a bad cross, it may not matter how appropriate the flick is to the time if it has got that one big mark against it.

I will say something about the Mission Impossible concept to our current times.......if you mess up, we don't know you! (the Secretary will disavow (is that in the movies, too?))........about the way governments and politics work these days.

The Net (1995) hit cyber fear on the head when it first came out.

During paranoid times, I enjoy watching feel-good movies regardless of the language because I just want to get rid of the chaos in my thoughts.
