The entire cast in the HBO movie "Gotti" was miscast. Armand Assante as John Gotti didn't work for me, as well as William Forsythe portraying Sammy Gravano...wrong on both counts!
Michael Madsen as Sonny Black in "Donnie Brasko", should have been DeNiro or Chaz Palminteri.
Nicholas Cage as Ghost Rider...Colin Farrell would have been way better.
Watch the movie Find Me Guilty and you might change your mind. I used to think he was a joke too but that has more to do with the roles he typically takes on. Turns out the guy really can act if he's given a proper role.
I thought that Joaquin Phoenix was really mis-cast as Johnny Cash in "Walk the Line". That part would probably be hard for any actor to pull off well but he just didn't seem to fit the part in any way to me. I think Tommy Lee Jones would have been much better for that role, although I'm sure it would have been a lot of extra work to make him look like the younger Cash.
I know that many people do not agree with me but I really did not like Robert Pattinson as Edward in "Twilight". He is totally different from the desciption in the book and he wasn't playing the role very well.
I have been thinking about who I would put instead but so far I have not found any actor young enough to play the role.

Just observing from an objective POV (I didn't really get the whole "Twilight" phenomenon, probably because I'm not a chick), I didn't really see what was so alluring about this guy. He looked like a bonehead, and he looked like he was in pain trying to affect an American accent. My wife, who is very much into the whole "Twilight" mystique, thought he was a thoroughly awful choice for the role.
But, per the thread title, who would you have put in his place? I don't really have an answer myself.
I would replace Pierce Brosnan in Momma Mia with almost anyone with workable vocal chords. He was awful.
Agreed! While I was pleasantly surprised with how well the women sang (Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried), some of the men (especially Pierce Brosnan) were terrible!
