I finally got to see this movie last night! I have to say it was brilliant! It's a cross-between Jackass and any typical/stereotypical middle-easterner.
Anybody out there get to see the movie? If so, where you offended by it?
What was your favorite part? Mine was when Borat met them 'boyz in tha 'hood' in/around Atlanta, then afterwards, took his newfound 'tongue' to the hotel requesting a room.
It's so funny how gullible Americans are towards 'foreigners'.
Does anyone remember the rodeo scene somewhere in Oklahoma? There was that guy tellin' him to shave him mustache so he doesn't look so 'conspicuous'. Funny stuff, nonetheless!
I wasn't offended at all, but even though I laughed, I didn't like it *quite* as much as I wanted to. I think maybe I just did not care for "linear "two-hour Borat; I'm used to seeing him in little vignettes on HBO. The storyline just felt kinda lame after awhile.
However, the movie does a swell job of catching people being themselves, in all their idiotic glory.
heh
Did you see Cohen's thank you speech at the Golden Globes?
(It was funnier if you had already seen the movie, which I had.)
It was pure gold. In real life, he is such a good-looking guy, too.
saw it and hated it
it had its funny parts like on the train with the chickens running around or when him and his friend were arguing running around the hotel naked
but i felt like it was trying to make fun of american ppl
the guys not even from this country and he has the nerve to come and try to make us out to be idiots

Well, that's the thing: all Borat had to do was be in character, and we Americans took it from there.
That scene at the rodeo...the dinner....the frat boys....Borat just sort of helped us make fun of ourselves.

I loved it, also love his TV show with his other characters - Bruno and Ali G. You miss the point, he makes fun of everyone. His TV show originates from a show in England and he made equal fun of the british. He also got the real life country of of Kazistan mad at him for "Borat" being from that country (his character claims it was from the neighboring country of Ubikastan complaining and trying to "make war" on his country). His character Bruno makes fun of gays, his character Ali G makes fun of white hip hop wannabee's.
He also makes a big deal of Borat being afraid of jews, which is funny since he himself is jewish. I watched him when he first appeared on HBO 3 or 4 years ago and was thinking this guy is a genius. You have just got to see his interview as Ali G with Andy Rooney. Rooney finally throws him out of the office because the interview is just to wierd for him and Ali G, claiming racism, says to Andy "you be a rationist because I be black". The incredilous look that Rooney gives him just has to be seen.

i heard the frat boys sued him
good for them i say

The frat boys did indeed sue. They tried to get their scene taken out.
They were denied injunctive relief.
They did not exactly lose. They got sort of a one-time buy-out for their "performance."
I wonder who would be interested in hiring them now, after viewing their "performance"?
