^Classic. For whatever reason, the song never gets old. Such powerhouse talent in one room. Ronnie assembled some of the greatest singers and guitarists in heavy rock at the time, but there are some notables missing:
Bruce Dickinson (though Adrian Smith and Dave Murray showed up to play the harmony guitar lines)
Sammy Hagar (seriously, how was he not a part of this?!)
Chris DeGarmo and/or Michael Wilton of Queensryche (of course Geoff Tate's there to sing one of the best lines of the song)
Rik Emmett
Randy Jackson (Zebra's frontman is a dual threat on both lead vocals AND lead guitar...and so is Rik Emmett, of course!)

There was a lot of problems with Hear 'n Aid. One was all the performer's contracts. It took them forever to iron all the legal stuff out and release the song. By the time it was released everyone was over the "We Are the World" stuff. It didn't have the impact it should have had.
As for Bruce Dickinson not being there, they were in the middle of their epic "World Slavery Tour" . Dave and Adrian flew in to do the recording while the rest of Maiden was traveling to the next show.
Oh and Dio should be posthumously awarded Best Metal Voice of all Time!
