there is nothing wrong with real hip hop.

However you can't deny there are overly misogynistic lyrics and images in rap videos today.(not to mention fluffy pop music -- and I use the word music loosely)

Video clips for songs like Sexy *****, are basically soft porn.

Calling women a ***** or a ho? Well thats all you deserve then boys.

As for so called pop music, well -- what can I say. Its crap. The day that Kesha got a record deal was a very sad day indeed.
I do love Real Hip Hop because I grew up in the 90's and I was born in a ghetto neighborhood where Rap music was in our blood. But at the same time, it is preposterous to state that "all new music is garbage". As far as saying Pop Music is garbage, thats like saying the Beatles, Michael Jackson and Nirvana were all garbage because all of those musicians are considered to be Pop Music. Just because a lot of people like a certain song doesn't make it bad. Most people wouldn't even know what Rap music was if it weren't for Big record labels.

That's the thing about Mainstream Rap today: It's about having a good time! What is wrong with partying and listening to Party music? Not everyone wants to be burdened by heavy political messages all the time. I will admit I do not listen to the radio or listen to Mainstream Rap in my car. But there is a time and place for Mainstream club/party tracks. Mainstream Rap is great when you go out to a club or concert in the city and everybody is drinking, dancing, getting loose and having a good time! You should try it some time!

I think that Mainstream Rap is a guilty pleasure for a lot of people who live in uptight suburban environs. Suburban White folks will listen to Gucci Mane in their car with the windows rolled up and turn it down whenever brothers are around like dude off of Office Space. Whenever I go to a club or a concert in the city and a Mainstream rapper is performing, there are usually ZERO White folks in attendance. It's like a lot of White folks don't wanted to branded as "wiggers" or be minorities in certain places. That is like social suicide. Being too "up with the times" in terms of Hip Hop and Black culture for a lot of White folks is simply unacceptable in our overly polarized and segregated society.

Non coincidentally, back in the day, most "Real" Hip Hop acts had zero White people attending their concerts and buying their albums. I think it is weird that most of what White folks describe as "Real" Hip Hop acts are venomously anti-White like Dead Prez and The Coup have entirely White concert attendances and fan bases. Do White Hip Hop fans like to be made feel guilty about things their ancestors may have done through terrible racist demogauge rappers? Why doesn't someone tell me because I can't figure it out. It perfectly matches to what rappers usually sing about, doesn't it?

Anyway, try to look at pop or metal vids. Most of them suck too.

The most retarded ones are the southern rap videos, idiots with gold teeth smiling while holding dollars in hand while a car with shiny rims drives in circles around them. It's not longer about the actual skills anymore, it's a gimmick now. This rap video I just posted is a VERY simple one, no Hollywood effects, it's AZ.

I agree. But I think it is ironic how some people preach how they know "Real Hip Hop" when they don't know sh*t. I grew up in the ghetto in San Francisco (yes, there are many ghettos in SF, it's not all f*gs and the Golden Gate Bridge) and my neighborhood was extremely prolific in producing beautiful Rap music. Rappers from my hood narrowly missed out on mainstream success. One rapper who grew up down the block from me used to collaborate and produce tracks for Master P when he was still living in Richmond, CA across the Bay. What made our music "real" was that it spoke about the ups and downs of life in our forgotten in ghetto. It expressed our struggles, our joy and pain:

But just because I know what Hip Hop was like firsthand growing up around it in its rawest form doesn't mean I can't appreciate Mainstream Rap. A lot of it has to do with an understanding of the culture. I currently live in the Baltimore/Washington corridor. Because of this I understand and appreciate songs like these:

Not all Mainstream Rap is booty shaking trash either. There are a few good rappers and videos currently on TV and the radio. Can you seriously come up with an argument that this song is bad if you are truly a Hip Hop fan?

What's wrong with showcasing females on television? The female body is a spectacularly beautiful thing. That is what is wrong with most Americans: we are too puritanical, uptight and repressed. You would literally sh*t yourself if you went anywhere in Latin America or Europe and experienced how open those people are to their sexuality. And they aren't ashamed of it like Americans. Sex sells in America because most people are hopelessly deprived of something that is free and shameless in most other societies.

As a young male, I like looking at exotic beautiful scantily clad women because those of us living outside of South Florida don't see that on a daily basis. I can't believe people are actually up in arms about showing women in rap videos. What? Do you want them to cover themselves up from head to toe like they do in the Middle East? It's not like there is hardcore S&M f*cking in rap videos for God's sake! Anyway, anybody who has an internet connection or is over 18 with an ID can see that type of thing.

I think this whole "Hip Hop is dead" movement is similar to the "Disco Sucks" movement of the early 80's. Once corporate White people take over a Black genre of music and water it down for uptight Suburban folks they don't like it any more. Not coincidentally, Black folks didn't give a sh*t back then and still listened, partied and danced to Disco music even though White people hated it. To this day, older Black folks consider those 80's Disco records to be Soul music classics. This is the reason why Hip Hop will never die. It's original core audience will continue to support new Hip Hop no matter what music nerds, suburban natives and square White people have to say about it. There is a lot of good new accessible Hip Hop music out there. You just have to get past your "Commercial Rap all sucks" fan boy mentality to give it a chance:

It isn't the beautiful women in the videos that bothers people. Women can just pick up on the fact that a lot of these gangsters don't respect them and would just assume give them a backhand as anything else. Hoes, b**** and who knows what other trash comes out in the course of a song. That is the difference I think. This video shows women in bikinis but isn't so much about knocking a piece off and kicking them to the curb when you are done. It is about summertime in Michigan with reference to cars, boats, lakes, music, fishing etc. I am a fisherman and get into this video just for the time spent on the lakes in the boats. That is cool!

Hell, I even think it is cool that a song that was obviously Lynyrd Skynyrd inspired uses a famous LS guitar. A Gibson Firebird...... that helped contribute to the tone and bring the legendary trademark Skynyrd flare to the song. This tune has Skynyrd mojo working in it! I think people see what they want to see and hear what they want to hear. All that "b*tches ain't sh*t" mentality definitely does not comprise all of Hip Hop. There are many very popular respectful Hip Hop love type songs which don't downgrade women to an obscene footnote. These rappers are far from gangster and this song was inescapable in 2009-2010:

This song is a little older but portrays women in a more tasteful light and isn't all bishes n ho's:

I think too many give all of them a bad RAP (pun intended) LOL though! It's not my thing, but it could be someone elses. That is the way I feel about it. For me it has to have a guitar to listen to it. Not only a guitar but I prefer EXPERT or in your face guitar style. Yes peeps, these players still exist and are even under 40 BTW. You just have to know who they are!
