Can't blame the artists. There is plenty of talent out there, but the music industry is marketing crap to the masses. Blame the masses who eat this garbage up...supply meets demand. In fairness, there was always crap out there, especially where pop and top 40 comes in, even back in the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's.

If you mean mainstream music, then yes. If you mean music overall, hell no. There are plenty of great bands still making music but they do not get much attention.

My favorite band is Queens of the Stone Age. They have been making music for over a decade and looks like they aren't stopping anytime soon. They are my pick for best band of the 00's.

Granted, many of the current good bands have been around for a long long time but I still consider them current music if they are making new albums. Foo Fighters are still making quality music as well. Alice in Chains new album is awesome. Metallica album in 08 is great as well. Them Crooked Vultures made a great album last year and looks like we will get another by this time next year. Muse is still decent even though I think they aren't nearly as good as the 2nd and 3rd album.

Does music today compared to music from the 60's and 70's suck? Maybe. But overall, its alot better than most of the 80's minus a few bands like Van Halen, AC/DC, Gun N Roses, and a few more.

This.

It'd be nice if the bands I like got more attention, but then again I kind of enjoy getting to see them without having to pay "mainstream artist" ticket prices and without having to deal with the hassles that come with big concert venues.

I don't think I like either option. Today's music isn't garbage or wonderful. It's varied and a good deal of it is probably more mediocre than actively bad.

I do think we're in a period where most of the best music isn't mainstream. That might have always been true, but it seems more true now. And if you really expand your horizons I think there are some good African and European musicians out there.

I agree with Thomas R. Some is good and some is garbage. So has it always been so will it always be. People talk about how great 60's music was but never seem to mention that Sugar, Sugar was one of the biggest hits of the decade. That song makes even today's hit music look good in comparison.

If you can't find good music today, you have no one to blame but yourself. There is YouTube, lastfm, Pandora, XM radio and a million other sources to find good stuff including this very forum.
