I have been listening to the Pointer Sisters 1978 album "Energy" which contained some hot versions of west coast rock songs as well as the Pointer's 1979 "Priority" which contains some hot versions of straight ahead rock tunes with a heavy blues style
of interest is the song on "Priority" called "Turned Up Too Late" which i found out was a Graham Parker song from his early album "Heat Treatment"
another thing that got me curious about GP is the first track on Huey Lewis and The News 1982 lp "Picture This" is a song called "Change Of Heart" which was described by Rolling Stone as "Graham Parker meets Pat Benatar"
I just played a snippet of "Turned Up Too Late" by GP on youtube and i indeed liked what i heard
how would you describe his style? like a Joe Jackson type-literate blues- punk- pop.
since my music collection is devoid of any punk pop/punk rock stuff, maybe a GP album would be the way to go?
nobody ever talks about him so maybe he's underrated?
I've always liked him, but have to admit that I'm only familiar with a small portion of his music. I have the CD Burning Questions (from 1992), which gets only 2 stars in AllMusic, but I certainly think its much better than that.
I always considered him to be a blend of Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan...
He's always been classified as rock, but you can hear a little bit of everything in his music. Lyrically he is a good writer and I've found this song to be my favorite of his.
