Me & my partners are sittin here trying to figure out what makes House, House.
Would this song be considered House & if not--
--can you explain to us why & give us an example where we could "hear" the difference? Between this song & one kinda close to it? Hope somebody can break it down for us youngbloods--

Alright, for one, it's Chis Brown. I'm sorry but that automatically rules him out of the House game. He falls into that mainstream pop/r&b radio music category, he also doesn't produce his own music, so he really only provides the vocals. He also makes himself the focus of the entire song & video.
I can see how the tempo would make one think....'hey, this is house.' But it's really not, if you're going by house standards.
!!! House was made for dancefloors, it was not made for MTV !!!
If you noticed anything about most of the songs in this thread, they usually start off very minimal, and progressively lure you in deeper and deeper until the rhythm just goes off and you're fully immersed in the beat. It's a part of you. It's carrying you. It's taking you somewhere...And though on the surface may seem repetitive, every 4/4 beat adds another spiral to that circle of life towards another dimension. House allows room for your soul to expand. You gotta get lost (and found!)on the dancefloor (or anywhere!) to fully understand this!
^Take this song for example. It's 10 minutes and 25 seconds...Imagine all the places it's gonna take you in that amount of time..?! It's like climbing a mountain and coming down on the other side. It's a journey; it's exhilarating.
We got it now! <<<CHEERIN>>> AWESOME teaching right there!
Thanks Ms. D217!!!
