GRAND OLD FLAG - DANDY YANKEE (COLORIZED) - YouTube
The woman on James Cagney's left, portraying George M. Cohan's sister, Josie, is Cagney's sister, Jeanne! Unfortunately, they don't have the whole number. I saw this film colorized once and thought it was fantastic! In this case, colorizing was a treat. After all, we still have the b&w version to see any time.

I wish there were clips of "But, Mr. Adams" and "Is Anybody There?", both of which are perfect for this day. I can't believe that TCM didn't show it today~unless I missed it. // EDIT: Hooray! They'll be showing it at 12:30 a.m.=}

The lyrics in the piece are reflected in our songwriter's personal experiences following the suicide of a friend which happened during the early days of his recording career. They also reflect the failure of his first band. Our featured song was very moody and introspective. Its sparse arrangement, with some ringing acoustic guitar figures, would prove to be the basis of our singer's signature sound. By the way, Carole King added some piano keys to this tune.
