I feel most adults feel that music isn't as good as in the "good ol' days", but I'll have to disagree...we have so many talented artists still making music, young ones on the scene, and artists that release just catchy songs:

Alicia Keys, Lorde, Lana del Rey, Coldplay, Imagine Dragons

Autotune ruins all music it touches.

It's cranky elderly people who think that, of whom there are many. A lot of old people just like to delude themselves that things were amazing when they were younger and that they suck now. Nostalgia is just a human reaction to aging since it helps them deal with their diminishing appearance and faculties.

Think about it. What name or names do you usually hear that leads to an argument about how music today is doodoo? Chances are, one of these names comes up: Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Ke$ha, Katy Perry. The misconception is that ALL music today is similar to what you hear on the top 40 stations. That couldn't be farther from the truth. You are right, there IS great music to be heard, but you have to do a little digging because you won't hear a lot of it on your local radio station. There's also the fact that many artists don't write their own lyrics or even their own music. Because of that, people argue that music itself isn't important anymore. These artists, they say, are only looking to get rich and famous and lack the passion for the music that artists 20, 30, 40 years ago and beyond had.

I think the talent is there but many of the most talented artists aren't allowed time to actually find an audience so what we're stuck with are the artists that produce mostly "catchy tunes". If someone isn't an immediate hit, it's off to oblivion with them. With the demise of CDs and albums, we never get to hear an artist's full body of work-all we hear, over and over, are the one or two songs some corporate radio station wants us to hear.

Lack of guitar skills and the ability to play solos has a lot to do with it as well. Three or four chords won't get it done if there is nothing in the middle or a variance.

No all music is guitar based or employ solos in their compositions. You may not like that type of music but to say only that style is worthy is shortsighted. There has been some great stuff to come out this year that has zero guitar in it.
