You guys are so full of crap it is cute. And I use to say the exact same things being said above...
The descriptions being used above can only be used to describe the most mainstream, lowest common denominator crap. But every genre has that crap. If you are too lazy to look for the good stuff, that is YOUR problem. I know it was mine...
Some of the lyrics... would someone point out the cars, money, murder, rape, bling, etc... to me?
Quote:
I'd like to see
Her take flight into the stars
Instead of letting her fly free they keep her in jars
Instead of letting fly free they keep 'em in jars
I put my hand to the glass so hard
It might break the prison bars
It isn't hard to see why they keep her captive
She's naturally attractive
Speaks with adlibs, she's uncommonly talented
Ain't enough adjectives to do her dispotion justice
Kids are wishin' for just a kiss and it's a mission to touch her lipstick
Can't trust her with
Freedom of movement that's a chance to loose her quick
If she ups and splits
We might as well call that discussion quits
Rappers do not sing like musicians do in every other style of "music". In every other style of music the musicians use instruments to create their music, rappers use electronic beats and synthesizers, what is musical about that? No singing, no instruments. It's just a niche in the media that they realized was able to generate significant revenue since a lot of people like pretty tame and talentless noise.
- rappers don't sing because they're rapping
- no instruments? apparently you've only heard 10 seconds of 1 song snippet you seen on tv in your life
i guarantee you that you can find plenty of drum, bass, keys, even guitars in rap going back since the beginning
of course music is all subjective, but they said what you said in your last statement in the 80's and here we are in 2014 and one guy who spent a significant amount of time of his life producing "talentless crap music" is essentially a billionaire

So all billionaires are talented people? Okay.
Sorry, but I have heard enough of rap over the past 10 years by riding with people who listened to it, and I had no choice in what was played. I have had enough exposure to rap to find it repulsive. I've listened to the common radio garbage, and some of the more hardcore gangster rap. I was in a car for over 3 hours with coworkers who insisted on playing their music.
I know that Lil Wayne has tried to introduce guitar into his music, but even his faithful fans largely disclaimed it as a bad move. But really? Instruments in rap? I've even seen rap concerts on television, I don't see someone out there pounding on the drums or a piano. No, I see one person upfront rapping and sometimes backup dancers.

I don't get those claims either... this rap group uses all the same instruments a normal band uses, plus more:
Rap, as a musical form, has existed for many decades. What we know as "rap", commonly associated with black culture, developed in the 1970's. Listen to old rap from the 1980's and then tell me all rap sucks. I can't stand modern rap because most of the time you can't understand what the dudes are saying, and the other part of the time you recognize that they're talking about sex, drugs, crime, and their gangs, in vernacular that sounds totally ridiculous.
But just last week as my wife and I were painting the dining room, we played my "Old-School Hip-Hop Party" CD. "Bust A Move", "Wild Thing", "Hip Hop Hooray", "Whoomp There It Is", "The Message", "Rapper's Delight", "Funky Cold Medina", etc. I can rock with that, and we're both Caucasian. Rap started out as poetry set to a rhythm... the fact that it's degraded into NC-17 rated garbage these days doesn't change what it always used to be.
I'm somewhere in the middle. I don't mind the first generation of rap or anything, but I wouldn't call any of it genius. The 90s. That's where most of the genius resides. Then rappers went back to rapping slow with little change in rhythm but they made the lyrics retardedly filthy. "Chopped and screwed"? The industry realized how the fans didn't realize this was just a setup to excuse rappers that would follow with no talent to slow down so they wouldn't trip over their own tongues and embarrass themselves (i.e., no skill). Same for repeating lines in choruses, relying too much on your featured singer, or simply making the video one shot short of a porno. It all speaks to the masses who want entertainment first with art as more of a bonus if it happens to show up. Sad.

Kind of hard to get interested in a genre of music when the face of it is utterly disgusting. I wonder why the most popular genres of rap are what's played on the radio? Yet that is the lowest denominator of crap. It seems we are in agreement there.
But if this is the face that rap has, why would I care to go any deeper into rap? Bling bling, drugs, sleeping around, gang problems, etc...not really my cup of tea. Capiche?

You would dig deeper if you want to avoid bling, drugs, sleeping around, gangs etc... You dig deeper to be less ignorant of the giant body of hip-hop that INS'T that crap... especially before you trash the whole genre.
It is the same with country... the popular stuff is disgusting low quality crap like "Redneck Yacht Club", but if you dig deeper and find artists like Ronnie Brannigan, you can be completely blown away even if you don't like country.
Same with hard rock/metal, Do you really think Disturbed and Five Finger Death Punch are even liked among people who consider themselves metalheads? God no. Yet it is all you hear on the radio.
I would suggest turning off your radio, they play crap.

well hell, that explains it all right there
