Yes. Basically anything that sounds absolutely awful.

I find it funny that you say Pop is basically anything that sounds absolutely awful yet your screen name references a group that could be considered pop (Simon and Garfunkle) and I'm sure you wouldn't consider them to be absolutely awful.

I just picked the name because it sounded funny, not to reference the band.

Yup. In fact I'm picturing a clubby, guitarless version of Crazy Train sung by three 20 something hot girls. It would need a fat synth line to replace the driving guitars but it might work.

Just illustrating that music structure-wise, there isn't a huge difference between different pop music genres.

England tends to use the term Pop music broadly as it is intended, but in America, we mostly associate pop music with Top 40.

I will elaborate and say pop music as of today is a product. In the 60's there was good music on the radio and bad. Both The Beatles and The Carpentars were pop. Today music on the radio is STRICTLY bad music and it's all product for the sake of profit. Sure the Monkees were a product, but the same channel probably played the Stones and The Beatles and The Who and those were actual artists.

Technically, there are four music genres: Pop, jazz, folk and classical.

And yes, some of the songs by Eminem, Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne, etc, can be considered "pop". After all, that term means "popular music".
