Which song that hit number 1 on the U.S Billboard Hot 100 in 2013 would you vote for? I allowed multiple choice votes, but your votes are private unless you state which song you voted for.
I know the lyrics and video are atrocious, I know that they lost their court case and apparently stole the song, and I know Robin Thicke is a cheating tool, but I still love "Blurred Lines." Every time it plays, I want to dance. Probably because it is so evocative of "Got to Give it Up" by Marvin Gaye, another song that makes me want to move. It has a permanent spot on the play list I use when I'm in a crappy mood and need to turn things around.

"Royals" is far and away the best of them, but I also like "Thrift Shop," "When I Was Your Man," and "Just Give Me A Reason." "Royals" has a very minimalist sound, and some excellent harmonies. I also love how it pokes its finger square in the eye of the materialistic "glam rap" scene. "Thrift Shop" does the same thing, though not as blatantly, and it's a funny song as well. "When I Was Your Man" is an excellent vocal/piano arrangement. "Just Give Me A Reason" instantly became an all-time classic male/female duet.
"Locked Out Of Heaven" I consider a 2012 hit because that's when it first reached #1. "Harlem Shake" is just...strange. "Can't Hold Us" is OK. "Blurred Lines" is creepy and tasteless despite its catchy sound. "Roar" is a banal empowerment anthem. "Wrecking Ball" could have been good if only I never saw the music video, which ruined it for me. I didn't like "The Monster" at first, but it grew on me, though it's still not a song I'll go out of my way to listen to.
Ugh, I hate Royals. The overall level of pretentious teen angst causes me to cringe for humanity.
I went with Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. I feel like they have legitimately introduced/legitimized a new style and new idea to hip hop.
