Not a bad year in my opinion. I voted for a whopping twelve of these songs.

"Pop Muzik" by M signaled the start of the 80's, sound wise.

I agree, great solo.

Too bad they almost ended up being a one hit wonder,
they had a follow up hit, not as big, then seemed to vanish...

Blondie's Heart of Glass was the big hit of spring 1979,
though it is actually a 1978 song, first released on their album Parallel Lines.

I suppose your statement is straight-faced. But you didn't say why or which one you would have chosen.

1979 was definitely a great year for Top 40 music as well as #1 singles and it's really hard to choose which songs I like because there are so many really good songs that came out that year, my Top 5 choices are

M's "Pop Muzik"
Herb Alpert's "Rise"
Donna Summer's "Hot Stuff"
Rod Stewart's "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy"
Kinks' "My Sharona"

The only clunker IMO was Rupert Holmes' "Escape", I am surprised Bee Gees' "Love You Inside Out" went #1 because it seems to have faded into obscurity quicker than their other hits.

I hope you voted for all those you liked as one can choose multiple entries.

Considering I was born in 1978, I am shocked I know 14 of these songs!
