I'm laying in bed here listening to some Camile Saint-Saëns ("Aquarium" from Carnival of the Animals) and thinking how amazing classical music really is. It's the only genre that let's you interpret the music as you see fit rather than dictating you some lyrics. It's by far the widest variety genre available and has been around for much much longer than anything else. In fact classical music took off with the renescence period that's started in 1400AD and still strongly lives on through today. Modern music didnt really take off until the 1920's. It's really the only timeless genre. (610 years vs 90 years)
Now with that being said, I'm I the only one who still listens to the stuff? Sometimes I feel like I am but I know that's not true.
I do listen to it! Not as often as you I suppose, but it is one of my true indulgences since I seem to be the only one who appreciates it!
I grew up playing classical music, so I listen to a fair amount of classical music. A bigger question is does anyone listen to contemporary classical music (as in music written in the last 30 years)? That audience seems to be really small.

I listen to Classical, in particular piano and violins.
I don't listen to a lot of classical music but after I watched Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and heard Yo Yo Ma play - think he's the best cellist there is. So mixed in with my other music, I have a couple of his CDs.
This one is probably my favorite because my son plays piano, taught himself at 8 to play by ear, and this was one he used to play when younger and I got him into formal lessons. When I do get to see him I always make him play it for Mama
