I listen to a lot of astral jazz and groovy funk jazz stuff. Can't say I get into the more abstract stuff.
I bought the complete ******* Brew Sessions and haven't listened to them yet.
Too dark and disorienting for me so far.
I have really gotten into old school jazz lately, Charlie parker, Miles (Kinda Blue era), etc. is really good the more you get into it. Watching Ken Burns Jazz really helps introduce you to a lot of great music.
I'm a jazz fan. No particular artist as I can't keep track of who's playing what in which group. It depends on what I'm doing as to what type of jazz. Generally smooth jazz is light and soothing.
The reason I listen to it is because if I'm reading, books or on the computer, I can't listen to music with words as it makes me have to constantly go back and forth between both every second which is confusing and means I don't get the full effect of either. I can't hear music with words and not listen to them. Even worse if I'm trying to think, it completely interrupts my thought process if music with words is playing.
I like some Jazz music, but not the irritating type where people are hunting up and down the scales to prove how fast they are In addition to that I prefer Jazz that includes electric instruments such as Rhodes piano and subtle analog synthesizers. Needless to say I like old-fashioned Fusion
There is some great Smooth Jazz stuff as well.
