Default Highly Suspicious

I thought this was a Prince song the first time I heard it:
Highly Suspicious

After I listened to this once I couldn't get it out of my head for a while. It was like I was back in 1985 all over again.

Rainy Day Bells

I'm a bit older than most of you ... well maybe a lot older ... the Globetrotters cut a record long ago ... Rainy Days Bells ... a good old doo wop song ... their one and only record. Still played today when shaggers gather at the Carolina coast. This is the basketball Globetrotters.

I was surprised when I found out that Shakedown Street was sung by the Grateful Dead.

When the group America cut their first 45 in early '72, "A Horse With No Name" sounded awfully familiar to me. The first guy I thought of was Neil Young.

For any of you American Idol fans...When I first heard "Baby I will wait for you" by Elliot Yamine, I couldn't believe that was him. It was so different than the songs he sang on American Idol.

A lot of people used to mistake America for The Eagles, so I understand that very much.

Speaking of The Eagles, when "Witchy Woman" came out, it sounded nothing like their other songs. I discovered that I wasn't the only one who thought DJs were saying "The Beagles" since it was such a trend for groups to select soundalike names, whether as homage or to help out their careers. They went from this:

Eagles - Take It Easy - YouTube
to this:

Eagles - Witchy Woman ( 1972 ) - YouTube
which was released at the same time as this:

Eagles - Peaceful Easy Feeling - YouTube
I still think it's quite a different sound for "Witchy Woman", especially when I think how many groups were doing great harmonies. Do they seem different to anyone else? Maybe not now with the group being familiar, not newcomers as back then.

Way back when, DJs would play a lot of music back to back without giving the titles or artists. For some reason, some of us were positive this was The Rolling Stones. I guess that, unless you bought the record and saw the name, you could mistake one artist for another. Of course, the speakers in cars are so much better now.

The Chambers Brothers - Time Has Come Today - 45 RPM - Short Version #2 - YouTube

When this record hit the airwaves, we thought it was by Rod Stewart. Since we rarely saw pictures of groups or performances on TV, we had no idea what the lead singer looked like, and people speculated that it WAS Stewart since singers sometimes popped up with groups, going from one to the other. I still think he sounds like Rod Stewart during that time period. And, it's definitely still a great song! And, I STILL have that single with the great label art:

Stories - "Brother Louie" ( Stereo HQ ) - YouTube

I think this was from close to the same time:

Rod Stewart-Maggie May - YouTube
