I wanted to start a thread for one of the greatest bands ever . The chiming Rickenbacker and the soaring harmonies are unmistakable as soon as you hear them. Their later country influenced sound featured such performers as Gram Parsons and bluegrass virtuoso Clarence White. Their influence has of course been huge. When the Beatles were fans of yours it was hard to go wrong in 1965. If you have any memories of the band, or videos of them (or their offshoots such as The Flying Burrito Brothers) feel free to join in. Of course the best place to start a story is in the beginning so....
First Byrds song I ever heard was 8 Miles High and it was magic. I loved that monster bass at the beginning. My old man hated it and told me he'd break the damn record if he ever heard me blasting it in the house...which made it even better.
Never paid much attention to them until I saw McGuinn Clark and Hillman play at Syracuse Univ. in 1978. That was one of the best concerts I've been to and I didn't know most of the music.

It was the first song I thought of when I saw the title.
I was 14 years old and visiting Philadelphia in 1965 when I heard Mr. Tambourine Man. I bought the album (my first ever) the next day. And played the crap out of it for the next 10 years.
This clip features the vocals (and songwriting, I believe) of Gene Clark, who unfortunately, left the band in 1966.
They were a wonderfully talented band and arguably as important as Buffalo Springfield in American musical history.
Better than the Beatles as I have stated many times before and the upper echelon of great American bands. Further proof to the enlightened that overall American acts are better than the Brits.
Their early recordings were so rich and textured. They almost could be considered as Dylan's official cover band there for a few years, though they certainly had minds of their own. It's popular to say I hate the Beatles, but it's hard to find someone who doesn't appreciate the Byrds. My fave would be an early one, and naturally it would be a Dylan cover - My Back Pages always did it for me. So here it is...
