Joe Walsh (with an intro from Wolfman Jack", "The Radio Song", from 1987. I think I heard it maybe twice on the radio in SoCal.

There's a rarity. Never saw it on TV, and believe it or not, I never heard it on the radio. Did you hear it on KLOS?

Default Robert Wyatt - At Last I Am Free

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xQx4G11pRo

I prefer it to the Chic original (and I do like Chic). Oddly, I didn't realize it was a Chic cover for many years, evern though I owned the Chic album it was on. But I don't think I'd ever listened closely to the album all the way through. Also, I had put it aside at the time in favor of underground/alternative music (like Robert Wyatt! haha).

And not only do I prefer it, but I think the Wyatt version is fantastic. Has a very distinctive, exceptional mood. I left that out. Like a lot of music it pushes sorrow into the ecstatic (but still does it in a way that I find quite out of the ordinary).

Speaking of iconic musicians who later made music that was rather dissimilar to their early ventures, here's Animal Logic.

Stewart Copeland and Stanley Clarke (you all know who they played with) wisely chose a vocal instructor named Deborah Holland to front their pop band. Yes' Steve Howe plays guitar on this track, but their full-time guitarist was Michael Thompson. AL's self-titled debut came out in '89.

KCAL, San Bernardino. Was in the High Desert, KLOS was a hit-or-miss station.
