I live in conway and behind our houses there is a canal. this canal was dug with the intent to connect to the waccamaw river and that plan was scraped so they now call it a drainage ditch. With this being said the neighbor who lives on pitch landing rd pumps water out of the canal in to a pond on his property drying up the canal killing the fish in it that we stock in it. The back end of the canal butts up to wetlands. second he shoots the turtles that come up on his property and tosses them in the drainage ditch in front of his house to rot in the sun. It kills me as I had just taken pictures of this big turtle in my back yard after she was done laying eggs. Now she lays dead in a ditch with a bullet hole in her because she wandered on to the wrong land. third I thought it was not legal to put a fence in a body water that is shared by others. any help on these matters would be helpful..thanks
below is the turtle in my back yard

Who owns the land where the canal/drainage ditch is located? By him draining the canal is he also draining the wetland? Who owns the wetland?

Well the land where the canal/drainage (on my property survey, it's called an easement where about 10 feet of my property goes in to the water and so on up the street) at the opposite end of the canal is a bit deeper then the rest so some water remains. the last house on the street is on the wetlands.

This sickens me. If I were you, I would start by contacting:

South Carolina Department of Natural Resources

You might also contact the EPA and humane society. This guy needs to be stopped.

Aside from contacting DNR, I would call Horry County Police. You can't just pull out a gun and shoot animals. It is illegal and dangerous.

Your neighbor is a jackass.
