I love the south cause u all seem to place a high value to morals and ethics. Something I feel we have lost in society. I want to upbring my family in a christian atmosphere but yet not "burn us at the stake" sorta speak. haha I know it sounds funny cause here I am raising my children in a non traditional family dynamics haha. We want a change out of ca and think TN is for us. I understand that u all dont have same sex unions as we do here in Ca. We r allowed to have domestic partnership. And Im assuming that will be wiped away once we move there??? All of u guys rock thank u for being soo helpful!
My husband and I just moved to TN from L.A. last month and we love it. I think you will too

For what it’s worth, they had no problems in either of their work environments and ended up moving to an affordable area of Brentwood (to be closer to work in Maryland Farms) after the first few years of renting and trying to decide where they would like to live. In my friend’s case, he also works in a high touch / very public / competitive sales environment and had immediately success in the community.
I'm not sure if I would call that area "progressive" (after all, it is a poisonous word among conservatives) but definitely more open-minded than it is given credit for. Sure, there are a lot of conservatives there who probably do not "approve" of homosexuality, but they tolerate it. Brentwood especially is a city concerned with its own image, and they certainly don't want that image to be that of bigotry, intolerance, and discrimination. Brentwood has a professional atmosphere, not a "Good Ol' Boy" atmosphere.

It probably doesn't hurt that Brentwood has a large number of transplants both living and working in the community. It is drastically different than my first memories of the area in the late 80s/early 90s.

I definitely agree with Kevin. Brentwood is much more progressive than is often assumed. A couple weeks ago I was at Mere Bulles at a dinner hosted by an investment firm. A fairly serious event with a serious focus. I was telling a story about my "gay boyfriend," and wouldn't you know someone else at my table's wife had one, too! Other topics of interest that night - Jerry Springer writing an "escort" a check.

In Brentwood, it seems people do the opposite of "putting on airs." People are very down to earth, and it's been that way for a long time. My husband grew up in Brentwood (and later Green Hills), his family owns a business here, and I grew up going to school with Brentwood kids. It's been casual, welcoming and accepting for as long as I can remember.
