Cabin rentals in the mountains
Anyone have any favorite hide away spots in the mountains? Where do you usually go?
Any nice cabin rentals that you know of?

We've tried Mtn Laurel Chalets and Gatlinburg Falls Resort. Mtn Laurel has out of the way cabins, while Gatlinburg Falls has cabins that are close to town and not alot of privacy outside the cabin, but they are luxury cabins inside with pool table, video arcade games, air hockey table, (helps keep the kids entertained) and big screen tvs, along with inside jacuzzi tubs and outdoor hottub with porch swings and rocking chairs. Makes for a nice place to relax when you just want to stay out of the crowd.

I think Gatlinburg is beautiful. There are so many options when it comes to renting a cabin. I read an article recently in Southern Living Magazine about choosing the right cabin. There is a new section on their website to help you, here's the link Southern Living Travel and Vacations:
Cumberland Mountain State Park in Crossville also has nice cabins at good prices. There's one that sleeps about 16 people and it goes for around $60 a night.
Hope this helps!

If you want to be in a natural setting, I'd suggest Fall Creek Falls state park. The cabins there are really nice, though sometimes they do book in advance, check out the website.
Gatlinburg area gets a ton of visitors, but I gotta tell you, its like the wacked out Vegas of the mountains. Very gaudy and unlike the mountain places you see in the Rockies. There are some nice places in the mountains if you can get away, but its a completely different feel (imho). Also what i've noticed in this area that I don't see in other areas I've rented cabins, they charge you a cleaning and even a reserveration fee on top of the high cabin costs. OF course you can find them without, but it isn't the norm.

My wife and I stayed here for a few days last summer. It was wonderful. I think we got it for ~$100/night.

Amen!
If you want to just get away from it all, I wouldn't go to Gatlinburg. If you want crowds, traffic, air-brushed t-shirts and fudge shops, Gatlinburg can't be beat. (Back in the days before all the traffic, it was worth the drive to Gatlinburg, however, just to eat at Pancake Pantry...)
Fall Creek Falls is, by far, my favorite place in Tennessee and offers the peace and tranquility that you just can't find in Gatlinburg.
Actually, all of Tennessee's state parks are good options. Most have cabins, some more rustic than others. All of them are quiet and in beautiful surroundings.

I agree with this. The cabin we stayed in gave us easy access to Smoky Nat'l Park, but the entire Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area is a mess. We spent a lot of time just sitting in the hot tub enjoying the peace and quiet.
We only ventured into town for our dinners a couple nights. Otherwise we just used the grill and cooked for ourselves.

We were in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge in March for my daughter's wedding. It was lovely. We rented about 8 or 10 cabins from "Bearly Rustic". They are in Townsend, TN. The cost was reasonable and it was so peaceful. We had no complaints about the cabins. All were clean, well-kept and everything worked! I had read so many nightmare vacation stories I was really worried with us getting so many cabins from one place. But everyone enjoyed their stay. We plan on going back and will be using Bearly Rustic again.
