I know there is a LOT going on this time of year but just in case you haven't made up your mind about what to do this weekend, the Dickens Christmas is on this weekend and MAYBE the rain will clear up by noon on Saturday?

I haven't been yet, but I've heard good things. Just out of curiosity, where do folks typically park? I've heard this event draws tens of thousands of people, and I'm guessing Downtown parking spaces and garages can't accommodate everyone. Are there shuttles?

The parking garages and the lot behind Starbucks fill quickly. Look for lots where groups are parking cars for donations and take a spot and make a donation if they have openings - that is the easiest way to park. Seems like there are youth parking cars on the corner of 96 and Hillsboro for donations for a church/ministry; the youth from the Methodist church park cars for donations on the Church Street parking lot and kids from Franklin High park cars at Shuff's Piano on 2nd Street.

Hillsboro going south is already a mess so I would be tempted to approach via Mack Hatcher and Franklin Road. Then I'd try parking on 2nd, 3rd, or 4th streets north of Main, between Church and N. Margin, and maybe as far as the old cemeteries. Easy walk from there.

South of town, I'd try Pinkerton Park. There is a pedestrian bridge over to S. Margin/1st Street.

The Franklin Trolly picks up at the Fieldstone Farms Publix and goes into downtown Franklin, but it would get stuck in traffic too, so you'd have to have patience BUT you wouldn't have to park (just park at Publix).

We always used to park at Pinkerton and walk over.

I don't go anymore, though. Too crowded.

Keep an eye on the weather and when the rain is about to stop, head down there. We did that for one of the festivals last year (was it Main Street Festival where rain poured Saturday morning?) and we had the streets to ourselves as people were coming into town and parking.

LOL

We may try Anony-Momma's rain plan. Folks here are very rain averse.

(IS that a word??)

We went. Warm kettle corn.... mmmmmmmm!

Not too bad in terms of crowded-ness (is crowdedness a word? If Wmsn4Life can use "rain averse", I can use "crowdedness"). Seemed like a lot of empty spots where vendor tents should be. Maybe they didn't set up in the rain?
